Societa` di Mutuo Soccorso Maria SS. della Misericordia
The Misericordia Society was founded in August 1920 by immigrants from the same region in Sicily. Their main purpose was to honor their patron saint, Maria SS. della Misericordia (Our Lady of Mercy) with a Mass, Procession and Festa on the first Sunday of August as they did in Italy. They also felt that the formation of this organization would aid them in the adversities they found in this new country. This was the basis for many Italian immigrant societies all over the United States.
Today our society is the only one left of its kind in the St. Louis area. True to tradition, a Mass and Procession celebrating Our Lady's feast day are still held on the first Sunday of August. Other primary purposes of the society are the preservation of our Italian culture and service to the community. We currently have 126 members.
The Misericordia Society meets the first Sunday of every month at St. Ambrose
